Symptoms to Watch For (Lipoma)
Soft, Movable Lump Under the Skin
Usually painless, these lumps feel doughy and move easily when pressed.
Lump on Neck, Shoulders, Back, Arms, or Thighs
These are the most common areas, but lipomas can appear almost anywhere on the body.
Painless – Unless Pressing on Nearby Structures
Lipomas are typically harmless, but they can cause discomfort if they grow large or press against nerves.
Slow-Growing Mass
Lipomas tend to grow gradually over time and often remain unnoticed until they become more prominent.
Round or Oval Shape
Most lipomas are well-defined, with a smooth, rounded contour beneath the skin.
Cosmetic or Clothing Discomfort
Larger lipomas may cause bulging under clothing or affect self-confidence due to their visible appearance.

A lipoma is a soft, non-cancerous (benign) lump made of fat tissue that forms under the skin. It’s usually painless, slow-growing, and movable to the touch.
No, lipomas are generally harmless. However, if they become painful, grow larger, or cause discomfort, removal may be recommended.
Lipoma removal is a simple surgical procedure done under local anaesthesia. The lump is cut out through a small incision, and most patients go home the same day.
Once completely removed, lipomas rarely come back in the same spot. However, some people may develop new lipomas elsewhere on the body over time.
The procedure is typically quick and done with local anaesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the removal. Mild soreness afterward is normal and manageable.
You should consult a doctor if the lump is growing, painful, firm, or interfering with movement or daily activities—or if you're unsure whether it's a lipoma.
